The foundations of The PROSPER AWD project are set in Quality Improvement Methodology, and this guide will demonstrate the processes the project promotes to help you achieve continual improvement.

Below is a 'Model for Improvement' which was created by The Institute of Healthcare Improvement, however, it is also the 'Model for Improvement' upon which PROSPER AWD bases all of its Quality Improvement Methodology processes.

PROSPER AWD has found using Quality Improvement Methodology will also lead to a change in culture in the home, by people becoming more aware, and taking an interest, in how the home is performing. As well as participating in the improvement initiatives in the three areas PROSPER AWD predominantly focus on, falls, Diet & Digestion and Ageing Well with a learning disability.

You can see from the model above that before you attempt any improvement initiatives in your home, you need to ask three questions:

  1. What are we trying to accomplish?
  2. How will we know that a change is an Improvement?
  3. What changes can we make that will result in improvement?

However, before you can start considering these questions you will need to collect some data to get a baseline of where you are at the present time and be able to measure whether any changes are making an improvement.
