The importance of good recording

‘If it’s not written down it hasn’t happened’!

Service Providers have a responsibility to ensure that effective records are kept that illustrate the quality and detail of the support they are providing. This is promoted by the Quality and Innovation team but you also have a role to play in ensuring that good evidence is being kept of the support provided and how this is maintaining individuals’ independence as well as meeting their needs in relation to ageing well.

Before you undertake a review, be clear about what records you would expect to see that would convince you that the Provider is aware of the impact of ageing on someone with a disability and takes this into account in how they deliver support.

 Ask to see records of who has completed the 2 day fully funded ageing well training.  

Use the Ageing Well Checklist to remind yourself of what documents you will need to ask to see.

The Quality and Innovation team at ECC offer two-day in person training and awareness events regarding supporting people who have disabilities, to Age Well. This is fully funded training available to any Service Provider organisation who is currently providing support to people with disabilities or is interested in becoming a recognised Ageing Well Provider.  

Evidence of ongoing training and improved practice will be a requirement of the Ageing Well Standards for badging. ECC provide access to a range of fully funded training via their Provider Hub. In addition to this you may choose to nominate within your staff teams, a ‘Champion for Ageing Well’ who will be able to drive forward the agenda for best practice and ensure that all staff remain informed and up to date with the issues facing someone ageing with disabilities.
