Promote the Vote
With elections coming up in May, this is an important moment for us to focus on something central to Inclusive Essex — making sure the people we support have every opportunity to be heard.
For the people in our services, having a voice truly matters. Voting isn’t just ticking a box — local elections help shape the care, communities, and everyday experiences that people rely on. Being represented and included is a fundamental right, and it’s a vital part of how we work together to promote dignity, independence, and belonging.
It’s important to be clear that this is not about influencing how anyone votes.
It is about making sure people know they are able to vote, understand their rights, and feel confident and supported to take part.
Many people face barriers — lack of information, uncertainty, or assumptions made about them. Your role is key in helping to remove those barriers, opening up simple conversations, and making voting feel possible, not overwhelming.
There are helpful resources on the Provider Hub, but the real impact will come from you — your conversations, your encouragement, and the confidence you help build.
Here’s what we’re asking from you:
- Make it visible. Make it simple. Weave it into everyday practice.Talk about voting naturally as part of the work you already do.
- Use the “Promote the Vote” materials,.
- Familiarise yourselves with the resources, especially the Voting Passport, so you can help people express what support they need at the polling station.
- Be aware of the guidance on photo ID and how to register to vote, so you feel confident offering basic support or signposting.
- Keep the message alive in team meetings, handovers, and conversations with families and advocates.
And most importantly — talk to the people you support.
That is where the real difference is made. That’s how we champion rights, strengthen voice, and ensure every person has the chance to take part in decisions that shape their lives.
Let’s use this moment to stand firm for inclusion, participation, and choice.
Every conversation matters. Every vote matters. Every voice matters.
