2024 route announcement

The annual cycling event RideLondon-Essex will take place for another 3 years from 2024 to 2026. This follows 2 successful events in Essex in 2022 and 2023. See below for details of this year's races. You can also download the RideLondon Essex 2024 information packMake sure you are aware of the routes and road closure times so you can plan ahead.

Friday 24 May 2024 - Classique Stage One

Route: Saffron Walden to Colchester (160km)

Impact: temporary road closures resulting in delays

  • Local road closures in Saffron Walden town centre 5am to 2pm (Market Square)
  • Local road closures in eastern area of Colchester city centre 5am to 8pm
  • Temporary road closures between Saffron Walden and Colchester during 10am - 3pm

Event details

  • UCI Women’s WorldTour Professional road race
  • 120 Elite women cyclists
  • Start 11am / Finish 3pm
  • Average speed. 40kph / 25mph

Saturday 25 May 2024 - Classique Stage Two

Route: Maldon to Maldon (circular route) (140km)

Impact: temporary road closures resulting in delays

  • Local road closures in Maldon town centre 4am to 8pm
  • Temporary road closures around Maldon, Tiptree and Little Baddow during 10am - 3pm

Event details:

  • UCI Women’s WorldTour Professional road race
  • 120 Elite women cyclists
  • Start 11am / Finish 2.30pm
  • Average speed. 40kph / 25mph

Sunday 26 May 2024 - Mass participation event

Route: London (Boroughs of Westminster, City of London, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney, Waltham Forest and Redbridge); Essex (Districts of Epping Forest, Uttlesford and Chelmsford)

Impact: widespread road closures along the route in place throughout the day. 

  • Extended road closures along the ride route
  • Parking suspended along the entire route

  • Ford RideLondon Classique - Stage Three
  • Ford RideLondon FreeCycle
  • 100/60/30-mile routes for 25,000 registered participants
  • 65 Miles of the mass participation route in Essex using the same roads as 2022
  • Riders in Essex from 6.40am to 4.55pm
  • Start 6am to 9.30am St. James’s Park, Westminster
  • Finish 10am to 6.30pm Tower Bridge, Southwark
  • Average speeds vary from 10mph to 25mph
