UTI prevention in older adults

UKHSA published a new report that shows the cost of treating urinary tract infections to NHS hospitals in England was an estimated £604 million in 2023/24.

To support stakeholders with their communications on UTIs, UKHSA and NHS England have updated their joint communications toolkit. The messaging in the toolkit can be used to target older adults (65+ years), who are at higher risk of the impacts of UTIs, as well as paid and unpaid carers in order to raise awareness of UTI prevention, symptom recognition and treatment, including advice on how and when to seek help.
