Residential Care Homes – Suspension of Admissions
In the event of an outbreak of a notifiable infectious disease, residential care homes may choose to put in place a self-imposed suspension of admissions as an infection control measure, based on their own risk assessment.
If a suspension is implemented, the care provider must notify Essex County Council (ECC) and the Regulatory Body as soon as practicable.
Further guidance on notifiable diseases is available here: Notifiable diseases and how to report them - GOV.UK.
The guidance requires care providers to:
- Conduct a robust risk assessment
- Develop a rectification plan to reduce infection spread
- Inform visitors of the situation
Additionally, providers must email ECC when the suspension begins and when it is lifted:
- Service Placement Team: Service.PlacementTeam@essex.gov.uk
- Contract Management Team: Procurement.Adults@essex.gov.uk
