CGM sensors in care homes

We have had reports that 2 care homes in Suffolk and North East Essex have been using one Libre reader for multiple patients.

Please be reminded that:

• Any damaged or faulty Libre 2 Plus readers can be replaced by the practice.
• FreeStyle Libre 2 reader is designed for use by a single patient use only. It should not be shared between different patients due to the risk of misinterpreting glucose readings. Each user must have their own reader or use the FreeStyle LibreLink app with their sensor.
• FreeStyle Libre 2 reader can only communicate with one sensor at a time, “sensor already in use” will be displayed on the reader. 

• Dexcom ONE+ reader is for single patient use only due to the risk of leading to inaccurate glucose readings. Each user must have their own reader or App linked to sensor.

Lost or damaged CGM readers can be obtained from the GP practice or specialist team.
