Complex Needs: Motor Neurone Disease for Domiciliary Care Staff

In our series of virtual training sessions aimed at supporting Domiciliary care staff to manage complex needs and those with neurological conditions, this course focuses on Motor Neurone Disease and is broken down into the following components:
- Introduction to the condition – a brief overview of what the condition is and what causes it
- Key points of the condition – a brief overview of what are the likely impacts of the condition
- A general approach to care for someone with the condition – the overarching paradigm to caring for someone with the condition
- Key risk assessments – what to specifically look out for which differs from a standard dynamic care risk assessment
- Moving and handling for someone with the condition – Key points on moving and handling a person with this condition beyond standard M&H practice
- Personal care issues – A general overview on key issues of personal care when working with someone with this condition
- Nutrition issues - A general overview on key issues of nutrition when working with someone with this condition
- Hoisting for someone with the condition– Key points on hoisting that differs from standard hoisting practice
- Positioning for someone with the condition – key points on positioning a person with the condition which differs from standard practice
- Red and yellow flags – warnings signs to look out for which would need the carer to alert a senior staff member or medical services.
As these are specialist training sessions, it is expected the attendees have all received their mandatory training regarding manual handling, hoisting, positioning, skin integrity, safeguarding etc.
